We had such a good time dancing on Tuesday. We will be back together in January. Keep an eye out for messages. We still have to confirm the 2018 schedule.

Pre-Malanka Polka Practice

Join us tonight as we start to get ready for Malanka. We will be brushing up on some of the dances that you usually see at Malanka:

• Seven-step
• Heel-and-Toe Polka
• Schottisse
• And more!

Join us at the Anglican Church tonight at 7:00 pm. We plan to run two more sessions in the first two weeks in January. We are waiting for confirmation on the dates. Keep an eye on this site for an update.


We are not affiliated with the Yellowknife Ukrainian Association or the Aurora Ukrainian Dancers. We just like them a lot and think that they throw a really good party.

Halloween Dancing

Happy Halloween!

We will be holding a dance class on October 31st. It will be a shorter class and we will be learning a line dance. Please note the change to the start time.

Round the World Stop # 2, Bolivia

We will be meeting on Tuesday the 26 at the Anglican Church at 7:00 pm.

This will be stop 2 on our around the world tour. This week we head to Bolivia to learn Chilili. See you then!

First class is on Monday

We are starting our new season of classes on Monday, September 11th. We will be at the Calvary Church basement on Franklin from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Please enter through the side door.

Community Showcase

We will be at the Community Showcase on Wednesday, September 6th, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Come out and see us. We are looking forward to meeting you.

Our first class will be September 11th at the Calvary Church basement.

Mark your Calendar!

We are getting ready for another fun season of dancing. Our first class will be held on Monday, September 11, 2017, venue to be confirmed.

Like last year, we will be meeting at the Anglican Church Hall every Tuesday except for the 2nd Tuesday of the Month. We will meet on the 2nd Monday of the month in a different venue. Please check this site for an updated schedule.

Annual General Dancing

We will be holding an Annual General Meeting / Get Together on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 7:00 pm. Contact us for the location if you wish to participate.

There will be no class on May 23rd. We are trying to reschedule at a different location. 

May update

We have spent the past few weeks learning some original choreography by one of our members. We are dancing to Pala Tute by Gogol Bordello.

Next week we begin learning the Virginia Reel. 

We have three weeks left to our year. Plans are in the works to hold the Annual General Meeting in June. 

New Dance - Hora Nirkoda

We are going to learn a new dance this month after all: Hora Nirkoda from Israel. 😀

Folk Dancing is Awesome

Dancing is one of the things that make us human. Birds sing. Dogs run. Fish swim. But only humans dance. Sure, some birds perform "dances" as part of their mating rituals, but as far as I know, humans are the only animal that dances for fun. 

It just feels good. 

Dancing is one of those things that transcends borders. People from every part of the world dance. Sometimes the dances have a spiritual purpose. Sometimes they are social. But dancing is everywhere. 

Watch a baby sometime. One who is just learning to stand up. When that little one hears music he or she will start bobbing to the music. Give children an open space and some music and they will dance unselfconsciously. It's natural. 

You may not have danced in a long time. You may think that people your age (or your gender) don't or shouldn't dance. Maybe you think you can't dance or that you can't keep a beat. But you still tap your toes when you hear a good song come on. Toe tapping is half-way to stepping. And stepping to the rhythm of the music is dancing. Try it. 

Dancing is awesome. 

Join us next Tuesday and we will help you get started.
